Last month, I planned my second International trip of the year to Belize to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. My first was to Cabo, Mexico in January. I chose Belize because of its close proximity to Atlanta (a 3-hour direct flight) I wanted to explore another part of the world (Central America), Beautiful beaches (Belize has so many!), and lastly somewhere that was relatively not overly popular (I might sound like a travel snob but I wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate this milestone.)
Getting to Placencia
Belize checked every box and my next huddle was tackling where we were going to be staying. I randomly came across Itzana, Belize during a google search and fell in love with the resort and it helped me narrow my location down to Placencia. Placencia is a 25minute flight or 3.5hour drive from Belize City. We chose to go the flight route (we flew Maya Island air) and had zero issues with delays. We booked our flight a few days before (I strongly advise booking ahead.) The plane ride was smooth and the plane fit about 10 or 12 of us.

Post COVID travel information to Belize
Belize is a Level 1, so Covid rates are low. When traveling to Belize, Vaccinated travelers do not need to take a test but Non-vaccinated travelers must continue to present a negative COVID-19 test to enter Belize. Belize will accept a PCR test taken within 96 hours of travel or a rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours of travel. However, entering the US everyone (2 or older) is required to present a negative test.

My stay at Itzana, Belize
I had the opportunity to collaborate with Itzana, Belize. The Itzana is located in beautiful Placencia and about a 10 minutes car ride from Placencia airport. I absolutely love this resort for many reasons but top on that list was the service! We had a designated driver pick us up from the airport. I was beyond impressed with the beachfront villa we stayed in. (Itzana has a mix of villas, lofts, suites, and deluxe rooms) The photos on the website don’t do it justice! You need to see the tour of our villa! Click HERE and then the BELIZE highlights for clips from my trip including the villa tour.

We also had a butler Wilson, who answered all our questions, booked activities, and made reservations for us. Aside from the amazing service, the food was delicious! I had the fish and chips on the menu every single day because it was that yummy! The hotel was relatively less busy during our stay so we enjoyed quiet walks on the beach and took advantage of the hotel facilities from the pool, the golf cart (perfect for going about town), and a less crowded restaurant. We even took a chocolate-making class!

What to do in Placencia, Belize
We booked a private boat and visited Laughing Bird Caye, a private island about 35mins boat ride from Placencia, and spend a few hours there. The Island is beautiful and OMG the water was so clear! Perfect for snorkeling and or swimming. We also booked a day package trip via Mayan Sky Canopy (We ziplined for the first time, it was a blast!) waterfall Swimming was another activity we tried (hubby jumped in from a low cliff.) We didn’t explore the nightlife so I can’t speak on that. I love that Belize is a melting pot of different cultures from around the world! BTW, the locals were super friendly.

I highly recommend adding Belize to your travel list for a great getaway by yourself (we felt safe the entire time) for you and your beau, family or you and your girls! I can’t wait to explore Belize again. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Got questions, please leave a comment. Till the next adventure!
