It’s not every day I get to travel to a private island with beautiful views, a pristine beach, delicious food and spend time in nature all without my passport! Lovango Resort in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, is truly one of a kind resort location and a must-add to your travel bucket list. Did I also mention St. Thomas is a 3-hour flight (3.5 flying back) from Atlanta!
The U.S. Virgin Islands are a group of Caribbean islands which happen to be part of the U.S. territory. It is known for white-sand beaches, reefs, and beautiful hills. It consists of larger islands: St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John, and Water Island. St. Thomas island is home to the capital. Since it is a U.S. Territory, American Citizens and Green cardholders do not need a passport to visit. All you need is your state ID. My advice for non us citizens including those who hold student visas is to have a valid visa which might be asked for when returning.
COVID Protocols
If you’re fully vaccinated (received at least 2 vaccines at least 2 weeks before your trip) you do not need a COVID test. All you do is complete this form up to 48 hours before your trip and you are good to go! If you’re unvaccinated, you can still visit but will need a negative COVID test.
How to get to Lovango Resort, St. John
Getting to Lovango Resort was super easy, as soon as we arrived at Cyril E. King airport in St. Thomas. The resort had a driver waiting outside for us. Omar our driver was fantastic! We drove for about 30minutes to Red Hook, St. Thomas where we got on one of the scheduled water taxis (they run very frequently) for15minutes before arriving at the resort. Ferry service to and from Lovango is operated by the resort and is complimentary to our overnight guests.
Accommodation
I got to stay in one of the newest offerings at Lovango, the Tree House which was nothing short of amazing. The views were just simply one of the best I have ever seen. I loved that it was quiet and it had all the essentials including a TV with a built-in air conditioner. A short walk and I was right in front of the private beach. If staying in a Tree House is not your style, Lovango also has villas (I got to see the beachfront villa) with the most beautiful view of St. John.
Beach Club
Another highlight at Lovango was the Beach Club which is complimentary for guests. Day passes are available for anyone who wants to spend the day at the Lovango resort. I spent an afternoon at the Beach Club and enjoyed my time under one of the cabanas (You can rent a cabana for a fee.) I ordered lunch and also enjoyed yummy treats while overlooking the pool and the island.
Food
There are a few options at the resort to grab a meal at the resort. Lovango is popular among guests staying in St.John and St. Thomas, especially during dinner time. My fave spot was catching the sunset at the waterfront restaurant. You can find more information about dining here. On one of our nights, there was a yummy buffet spread and a live band a bi-weekly entertainment for guests called Under the Stars. We had a great time.
Beach
Lovango has it’s own private beach on property and because it is located between St. John and St. Thomas you’re minutes away from other beautiful beaches. Trunk Bay one of the most beautiful beaches in the world is in St. John.
Other things to consider, Lovango is still adding new accommodations to the resort but I love that it is still business as usual. They also have sister resorts in Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket.
