Hi and thanks for stopping by my blog. I have been MIA for a bit because I actually decided to stop blogging for good. But recently a few good people changed my mind so I decided to continue blogging:) I have decided to commit to a once a week blogging schedule for now.
Today I am sharing pictures and DIY ideas from my son’s fifth birthday we threw earlier this month. I love throwing small parties and working on diy projects, so his birthday gave me an opportunity to put my creative chops to work.
I love Etsy and I draw so much inspiration from there! If you don’t shop on Etsy you are missing out! I love that it is a platform for small businesses, I operate a small business and nothing brings me more joy than supporting one:)
Like most five year olds, my son is into superheroes. I was looking up ideas on Etsy when I came across this photo booth banner which became my inspiration for the party:) I fell in love with the colors, (I instantly thought vintage superhero) and truth be told I am over the typical superhero themed party colors. Thanks to my hubby for capturing these amazing pictures:)
Party inspiration
I did a number of DIY projects for the party. I had someone on Etsy create a custom printable design of items from party banners, favor tags to labels. I have found that this is usually the best way to have something created just for you and at an affordable price. Just go to your favorite printing shop (office depot is mine) to print them and have fun cutting them out:)
I created a simple dessert table
I decided on a plain simple cake for the party
I added fun to the cake by incorporating my party colors:) I made an almond cake with vanilla icing
I created the food labels by cutting out the words from “my inspiration” and mounting them to my printed out labels
These cookies were yummy and a nice addition to my dessert table
I baked these red velvet cupcake minis topped with cheesecake frosting
I glued the cut out masks to my glass jar and added water bottle labels too
I loved the gable boxes, perfect for adding different nick knacks
No superhero party is complete without capes! They were a hit with the kids & the perfect party favor
I didn’t leave the girls out either, the “Frozen” craze is still major
Some of the kids in their capes
The birthday boy
We dressed the part too, by having custom superhero t-shirts made
I incorporated the masks from my inspiration and added stars too, in my party colors
He had a blast and I couldn’t have asked for more:)
