10 ways to prevent hair loss and damage

Hi guys, hope your week has been going great?  Temperatures are falling and it is getting colder. One of the common hair issues during this time is hair breakage. Today I am sharing remedies to stop hair breakage and hair loss. A few weeks ago I blogged about reasons we experience hair breakage here.  I am listing 10 things that you can do to help stop your hair from excessive shedding and breakage.

 
Get Trims
Scheduling hair trims every few months is important for hair growth. This is your best bet if you are currently experiencing hair breakage. Stop breakage on its track by cutting off the unhealthy ends and prevent further hair splits.

Moisturize your scalp
Especially with the change in weather to cooler temperatures, moisturizing is very important. Moisturizing the scalp is so important, after all your hair grows from the root. Prevent dandruff and address hair issues at the root, by ensuring you have a moisturized scalp.

Moisturize your hair
Apart from your roots, keeping your whole hair moisturized is important to prevent hair loss. If you already doing this,  introduce a moisturizing shampoo to you. See here and here for options.
 
Include hair treatments
Hair treatment such as protein treatment and steaming are treatment options that you can add to your hair routine to strengthen its condition. 
 
Use effective oils that locks in moisture
Another way to bring back life into hair experiencing breakage is to use moisturizing oils such as avocado oil, coconut oil and olive oil.

Reduce the use of heat on your hair
Straightening your hair its all nice and good, but doing it without the right products or too often can lead to hair breakage and split ends. Heat will damage any type of hair if it is not protected. Here is an amazing protectant to prevent heat damage.
 
Listen to your hair
Give your hair a break in between protective hair styles such as weaves and braids. Hair thrives amazingly with little to no manipulation, so remember this and give it breathing periods, a few days should do the trick.
 
Include vitamins and drink water regularly
Drinking lots of water will help with your hair growth and condition. It is not just a myth, it actually makes a difference. Water is simply amazing! Vitamin E capsule is something that I have found to be very helpful with hair growth especially the stubborn edges. Break the capsules and apply the liquid to the edges of your hair.
 
Change your hair routine as the weather changes
It is important to remember that a change in weather will have an effect on our hair. Going from Summer to Winter or Harmattan, switching out hair products to make accommodations. In the winter, products with moisture in them should be incorporated to hair routine since the air is particularly dry during this time.
 
Hair tools
The kind of products such as choice of hair brushes and other  tools used is also important. Skip using tiny combs for your edges and brushes like this or this one is best when dealing with wet hair.
